CoversheetThe documentary “In Search Of One River” is currently in post production. This is an early preview, a short segment about the ecological and cultural importance of the Amazon forest to the world. Our team travelled the Apaporis river in the Colombian department of Vaupés, one of the most significant corners of the Amazon jungle because of its biological diversity and landscape, and its ethnographic and cultural wealth. The difficulty of fluvial access continues to restrict the interference of settlers in these places and although the communities know about the existence of money, barter continues to be their means of exchange. It is a territory in which 25 languages are spoken and many of them distinguish fifteen tones of green.

I am not a typical American citizen, having been a Peace Corps volunteer in Africa, and having done a bit of “ecotourism” in the Andes and the Amazon River Basin in the past 5 years. But I cannot think of a single thing I would recommend changing about the film that I saw tonight at its Washington, DC premiere, other than fixing some of the footnotes. There were some sections when none were visible. And there were some typographical erros in others. But the cinematography and the focus cannot be improved; at least not by any suggestions I have.

really enjoyed it. Reminded me of my time in Africa as a volunteer and on vacation in the Andes. What’s not to liike about those memories?

    Thank you.
